PLAGIARISM POLICY
İzmir Academy takes plagiarism seriously and adopts a strict policy in line with ethical publishing standards. Plagiarism is defined as the unethical act of using someone else’s ideas, text, images, figures, or results without proper attribution. This includes self-plagiarism, where an author republishes substantial parts of their own previously published work without appropriate citation.
Both our journals and books are subject to a strict plagiarism screening process. The Editorial Board ensures that all submitted manuscripts are original and have not been plagiarized in any form. Articles or book chapters containing plagiarism, including self-plagiarism, are rejected immediately or retracted if detected after publication.
Authors are required to upload plagiarism reports (from tools such as iThenticate, Turnitin, or intihal.net) during the submission process. After peer review and final language checks, field editors also generate a new similarity report to confirm compliance.
Plagiarism Detection Criteria
(a) The overall similarity index must be ≤ 20%. Manuscripts exceeding this limit will be returned without review.
(b) If the similarity is 20–22% due to headers, footers, or template artifacts, those sections can be excluded and the manuscript re-evaluated. For legal/scientific analysis works, the overall limit is 25%, but similarity to a single source must not exceed 2%.
(c) No single source should contribute more than 2% to the total similarity score.
(d) Bibliography, references, footnotes, and legal citations are excluded from the similarity index.
(e) Editors may request updated similarity reports at any stage of the publication process.
(f) All submitting authors are deemed to have accepted these plagiarism control policies by default.
(g) If the Editor-in-Chief or editorial team finds the uploaded similarity report insufficient or unreliable, they may request a new report or conduct the analysis internally using verified tools.
If a manuscript is discovered to be plagiarized post-publication, the Editor-in-Chief will initiate a formal investigation. This may involve forming a special ethics committee. In confirmed cases, a retraction, correction, or clarification will be published based on the findings, and relevant academic institutions may be notified.
İzmir Academy is committed to preserving the integrity of academic publishing and ensures transparency and fairness in all editorial processes.
